Abstract: Nowdays, there is an undeniable fact saying that moslems are suffering from backwardness in many aspects. These might be caused mainly by education problems which could not describe the wholeness of human being. Therefore, the existence of International Islamic University  Malaysia (IIUM) and State Islamic University (UIN) of Malang  is to do an integrative revolution of education and epistemology of knowledge so that their graduates could  solve their own problems and the above backwardness. The research problems of this study are: 1). How is the knowledge development concept at IIUM?. 2). How is the knowledge development concept at UIN Malang? 3). How to do the knowledge development concept at IIUM and UIN Malang? 4).  Why are there differences and similarities in the development of knowledge between IIUM and UIN Malang? These problems are investigated through the approach of philosophy of knowledge in Islamic aducation and through a qualitative research method. In this case, the researcher is trying to understand the development of knowledge completely, deeply and speculatively to help or educate students for the better both at IIUM and at UIN of Malang. Futhermore, the researcher describes and interprets events, person’s behavior, or situations available both at IIUM and at UIN of Malang in detail and deep. After the data are collected, then they are analysed comparatively to find the differences and similarities. The results of this study are: 1). The concept of developing knowledge both at IIUM and at UIN of Malang integrates the knowledge into religious knowledge (fard}u ayn) and science   (fard}u kifa>yah ) by using the concept of Imam al-Ghazali (ihya’ulu>m al-di>n). 2). Both IIUM and UIN of Malang develop religious knowledge to all of their students, and develop science to a part of students based on their choices and departments though education, research and dedication to society. 3). The difference between both institutions is based on the application context due to the different mindset and background. IIUM integrates the development of knowledge  either fard}u ayn or  fard}u kifa>yah  only in the units, faculties, and departments not on-Campus Housing. However, UIN of Malang puts some subject categorized as  fard}u  ayn  in Ma’had and puts some subjects categorized in the units, faculties, or departments as an integrative knowledge development. Furthermore, on-Campus Housing at IIUM is not functioned as a place to develop intellectuality, akhla>q and spirituality, but merely as facilities (mus}alla, imam/leader of communal prayer and weekly discussion)  eventough the student study here for four years (S1). In contrast, Ma’had at UIN of Malang is functioned as a place to develop intellectuality, spirituality and wisdom as an integrative knowledge, although the students study here only a year. Key words: The development of knowledge, integration, and comparative.
